5. Know the vocabulary for the phrases: in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening. These phrases are listed on page 55 of the textbook.
6. Know what the additional words that appear in the schedule featured on page 56 mean. These meaning of these vocabulary words are listed in “le deuxième étape” on page 73 of the textbook.

Spanish: Students set up and began recording into their Voice Thread accounts today. Students selected a series of photo clip art which they will use to describe themselves. We will complete this activity by next Tuesday.
There will also be a vocabulary quiz next Tuesday.

Students set up their own Voice Thread account, and will be discussing schedules once we complete this work early next week.
In French, there is a quiz for vocabulary words next week on Tuesday.

On Monday, we will be holding our first Socratic seminar on Ray Bradbury's "The Flying Machine". You will need to come prepared with your annotated text. Basically, be sure to highlight and note any sections of the text that will be useful in discussing the following questions.

1) What sort of man is the inventor? What sort of man is the emperor? How are they different? How are they similar?

2) How does the inventor feel about his invention? How does the emperor feel?

3) Why does the emperor decide to execute the inventor and destroy the machine?

4) Is the emperor's decision the right decision or the wrong decision? Is it wise? Foolish? Cowardly? Brave?

Place your notecards in a plastic sandwich bag for transport to and from class. Cut the notecards so that all the cards will fit on your desk. It's your bingo card! You will need these in order to play the game!
Optional but fun! (Trés amusant!) is this site on quizlet.com. (The link is on the right side of the page...) Select French in the subjects box on the right side of the quizlet page. The type in the search box " French numbers " and review the groups that appear. One of the sites included the "é" over the word 'zéro'. The site was #16, MSK Burks Numbers 0-20. Try it out!

French: Complete the handout sheets given from class today. Practice saying your French alphabet aloud!

Spanish: Complete the handout using the Guided Practice Sheets pp 1-3 and page 7. This worksheet is on white paper. There is a review vocabulary list at the end of each chapter.
Continue to login into the online textbook to set up your account. You may need to try variations with your name. You can also use your Spanish first name and a last initial. It does work!

ELA Homework for Monday, September 13

1) Read "From the Autobiography of Malcolm X" in your red text (pgs. 632-635). It is helpful to read the short biography on page 635 before reading the excerpt.

2) In a short paragraph, explain how Malcolm learned to read while he was in prison, and how learning to read affected him. Consider how words changed this man's life.

REMINDER: Latin and Greek Vocabulary Unit 5, exercises 2, 3, 4, and 5 are due Wednesday. There is a quiz on the words this Friday, September 17.

Go to the Allez-viens! textbook site link on the right side of this page. Click the site and use "hopkinton1" for your username in the login section. Use "k2j2e" as the username. You should then look for the statement, "online textbook". There may be a picture of your textbook on this page. Click there and sign in.

Spanish classes: On Wednesday in class...please pick up a copy of your login procedures for the Spanish online textbook. Each class will have their own "access code." Please follow the written directions on the handout sheet. Your username must be your first name and last initial. You can access the textbook login site via this blog. The textbook link is on the right side of this page.
The online textbook provides interactive games, listening activities, and a page by page reading and writing activities. It is an excellent resource for your learning Spanish throughout the school year. The online textbook can be accessed from any location which has an Internet / Wi-fi connection. Please do not share your password with any other students.

2) Contribute to the "Thoughts on Writing" document. You should answer at least two questions, answering each with 3-5 sentences. Please include your initials and block. If you have any problems at all, you can complete this assignment on paper. Questions include:
a. Why do we write?
b. What makes a piece of writing poor?
c. What makes a piece of writing good?
d. What makes a piece of writing GREAT?
e. What writers do you admire or enjoy, and why?

Please conclude with one question you would like to ask about me. (Period 1, don't worry about this. We'll catch up tomorrow.)
